Finesse Crankin’.
The 6th Sense Curve 55 is one of my favorite finesse medium diving crankbaits. The size and shape make it a fantastic craw or bait fish imitator for targeting smallmouth and spots on clear water lakes like the Ozarks or Great Lakes.
01. Phenomenal Color Options
The first thing I have to call attention to is the paint jobs that are available in this lure. If you have ever bought any hard bait from 6th Sense Fishing, then you know exactly what I am talking about, and the Curve 55 is no different. My three favorite craw patterns are Crawfish Nook, Syke Craw and Natural Crawfish. My three favorite shad colors are Shad Sense, Sensory Shad and 4K Shad.
02. Fantastic Hardware and Durability
The treble hooks that come on this lure are top notch. They pin the fish and when paired with the right rod, they will not shake the hooks. The lure is also highly durable. I fish around rock and rip rap a lot and these crankbaits can handle a beating. So far the bills have held up well without cracking while banging pretty hard off of chunk rock.
03. All Species of Bass. And Steelhead?
I prefer to use this lure when I am specifically targeting smallmouth or spotted bass, but it will also catch largies if they are in the area. I live in the north east part of the country and often fish the Great Lakes region. On multiple occasions I have caught steelhead trout on this bait, which is a pretty fun bycatch when targeting smallies. In fact, I have started throwing this lure when fishing for steelhead in the lake because it has been so productive.
04. Rod, Reel and Line Setup
Any medium power, moderate action rod should work when throwing this lure, but the specific rod I use is the 6th Sense Fishing ESP, 7 foot 9 inch, medium power, moderate action casting rod. This rod loads up well and bombs this smaller sized crankbait with ease. Once you connect with the fish, this rod keeps them pinned for the whole fight with the moderate parabolic action. I like to use a reel with a slower gear ratio, specifically a 6:4:1 casting reel. I also like to pair this lure up with a light line. I use 12 pound and sometimes 10 pound fluorocarbon line to get the maximum diving depth. The parabolic rod action keeps the line from breaking, even when fighting a larger fish.
05. When to Throw the Curve 55
I bring out the Curve 55 in the early Spring, late Fall or when the fishing is flat out tough. The smaller profile gives the fish a more finesse presentation that works well when the fish don’t want a large or loud meal. I also like to throw the craw patterns anytime I get around rock and rip rap.
Conclusion
This is definitely a bait you will want to add to your medium diving crankbait box. It’s a fantastic finesse option to turn to when the fish aren’t biting anything else.
