Warm Water Crankin’.

The 6th Sense Cloud 9 crankbait is one of my favorite deep diving plugs to throw as the water warms up. The C6 size in particular is perfect for targeting those medium depths in  the 4 to 8 foot depth range.

01. Top of the Line Color Options

These crankbaits have some of the most detailed and unique paint jobs on the market. If you have ever bought any hard bait from 6th Sense Fishing, then you know exactly what I am talking about, and the Cloud 9 is available in some killer paint schemes. My top five color options are 4K Shad, Black Magic, Chartreuse Spank, Ozark Craw, and Shad Sense.

02. Specs and Action

The Cloud 9 in the C6 size weighs 1/2 an ounce and dives four to eight feet deep. The hooks and hardware are fantastic, there is no reason to swap them out. I like to use this lure in warmer water temperatures, because of the wide rolling wobble. As soon as I start reaching less for the lipless, flat-sided, and tight wobble crankbaits I tie on one of these and go to work. The lure also has a deep knocking sound, which works great to call in the bass from a distance. I primarily like to use this lure when targeting largemouth, but it will also work with smallmouth and spotted bass.

03. Rod, Reel and Line Setup

I use a medium power, moderate action rod when throwing this lure. The specific rod I use is the 6th Sense Fishing ESP, 7 foot 9 inch, medium power, moderate action casting rod. This rod loads up well and bombs the C6 sized Cloud 9 with ease. Once you connect with the fish, this rod keeps them pinned for the whole fight with the moderate action. I like to use a reel with a slower gear ratio, specifically a 6:4:1 casting reel. The line I like to use 12 pound and sometimes even 10 pound fluorocarbon to get the maximum diving depth. The parabolic rod action keeps the line from breaking, even when fighting a larger fish.

04. How to Fish the Cloud 9 C6

I have found the most success working this lure with a crank and pause cadence. I crank at various speeds, then when I stop the bait, that is usually when the fish hammer it. I work the bait at different speeds, because I am trying to figure out what the fish want to hit. Sometimes they want it slowly rolling across the bottom and sometimes they want it speed cranked right in front of them.

05. Where to Fish this Lure

Anywhere you would typically fish a medium diving crankbait, you can throw this lure. My favorite structure to target is rock and hard bottoms. I want to burn this lure across hard structure in order to trigger a reaction bite. This lure targets the four to eight foot zone, so it works phenomenally well on rip rap banks.

Conclusion

This is one of my favorite medium diving crankbaits for targeting largies. If you are hitting the lake from a boat or the bank, tie one of these Cloud 9’s on and throw it around, you won’t be disappointed!
