My Go-to Warm Water Jerkbait.
The 6th Sense Provoke 106X is my favorite aggressive jerkbait for when the water temps rise a little bit.
01. Many Color Options to Choose From
6th Sense Fishing always has plenty of color options within their lines of hard baits, but there are a few that stand out as being a bit different and unique. One of those unique colors is called Ditch Weed. Ditch Weed is red on one side and yellow on the reverse, so it gives off a really unique look when jerked below the surface. A few of my other favorite colors include 4K Bluegill, Ghost Bone Minnow, Electric Reaction, and 4K Shad. There are many other great options for a variety of different circumstances, but those are my core colors.
02. Specs and Suspension
The Provoke 106X weighs 1/2 ounce and dives to the three to 6 foot depth. This lure will suspend or have a slow float, but in most circumstances you can count on it having a slow float. The slow float is great if you are working shallow, because you can work it pretty quickly and not worry about it digging too deep and getting snagged on the bottom. However, if you want to target suspended fish, I have found that just one SuspenDot will do the trick. If you have a pack of SuspenDots handy, you should be able to fish this jerkbait in just about any scenario.
03. Action
The action on this lure is pretty aggressive, which is why I prefer this lure in warmer water scenarios. I can work it quickly while I am searching for bass and trying to cover water. It’s perfect for tossing around shallower areas and ripping back and forth through the water column. I like to work this lure as a reaction bait alongside a squarebill or a spinnerbait when power fishing.
04. Rod, Reel and Line
When working this jerkbait I like to use a six foot, ten inch medium, moderate-fast casting rod. The shorter rod makes twitching the bait easier. The moderate-fast action is important, because a purely moderate rod would be too limber to effectively work the bait, but too fast of a rod would yank the hooks out of the fish’s mouth. You really need something right in the middle. My favorite rod to use is the 6th Sense Fishing ESP 6 foot, ten inch, medium fast casting rod. Even though it is rated as a fast action, it has a unique action which is moderate enough to keep fish pinned on treble hooks. You can use any gear ratio you prefer for the reel, but I like to use a 7:0:1 casting reel when working a jerkbait. The weight of the line I use will vary based on depth, but it will always be fluorocarbon. I will use anything from eight to twelve pound test.
05. Hardware
The hooks on this lure are super sticky and are a slightly heavier gauge that other jerkbaits. The thicker gauge hook allows you to use heavier line without bending out the hooks. This is helpful when throwing the Provoke on 12 pound fluorocarbon line and working the lure quickly. The split ring is an oval shape instead of a circle which I prefer. The oval ring allows you to get a better knot and gives the lure better action.
Conclusion
The Provoke 106X is a lure you need to add to your jerkbait box. I would encourage you to try working this lure quickly and aggressively as the water warms up. Throw this lure around and hold on, you will get bit!
