Finesse Cold Water Crankin’.
The Megabass Deep X 200 LBO Crankbait is one of my absolute favorite cold water crankbaits. It catches all species of bass all over the country, but my favorite conditions to use this lure are clear water lakes when targeting smallmouth bass. I really enjoyed fishing this product and I think you will too.
01. Casts a Mile
The LBO (Linear Bearing Oscillator) weight transfer system allows you to bomb cast this lure. When you lift the lure with your rod to cast, the weight falls into the bottom of the bait giving you the ability to maximize the weight of the lure (½ an ounce). The weight transfer also allows this crankbait to reach the target depth of 12 feet as quickly as possible. Once the lure begins to dig downward in the water, the weight drops down towards the nose giving the bait the ability to dig straight towards the bottom of the lake.
02. Tight Wobble and Compact Size
These crankbaits perform really well in the winter due to their tight wobbling action. Bass can certainly be caught in the Summer with this lure, but I have found that it shines best in the colder months of the year. My favorite way to fish the lure is by burning it around rocks, then pausing it as soon as I hit something hard on the bottom. The smaller, compact size of this lure makes it perfect for mimicking the smaller forage that bass can be feeding on in the colder months.
03. Sticky Sharp Hooks
No need to swap out the hooks on these lures, they are sticky sharp. Especially when paired with a rod that has plenty of parabolic bend, the fish will stay pinned for the entire fight.
04. Rod, Reel and Line Setup
My setup for this medium running crankbait is a 6 foot 10 inch Medium Moderate casting rod, with a 6:2:1 gear ratio reel, and 10-12 pound test fluorocarbon line. I can get the lure down to about 10 feet with 12 pound line, but if you go down to 10 pound or less the bait will easily dive to its full depth. The rod is extremely important for this bait, use something that has plenty of parabolic bend to maximize your landing percentage. If your rod is too stiff, you might rip the hooks out of the fish’s mouth, or bend them out.
05. Favorite Colors
My favorite colors to use are Wild Craw, MB Gizzard and Sexy French Pearl. Wild craw is a fantastic color to use in the prespawn, however I have caught fish in the Fall on this lure too. MB Gizzard and Sexy French Pearl are my favorite shad imitators. I use MB Gizzard in sunny clear water conditions and Sexy French Pearl on overcast days with a bit less visibility.
Conclusion
If you are looking for a cold water crankbait, or a plug with a tight wobble this is a great option. It’s ready to go right out of the package and with the right set up you will be cranking fish all day. Pick up a shad and a craw pattern and give the Deep X 200 a shot!
