Top-5-Texas-Rigged-Plastics-Hero-Image

Worms, Creatures and Craws for Big Bass.

This list is not specific to any time of year or particular water conditions, these are simply the lures that I have the most fun catching bass on with a weighted texas rig. Most of these are bass fishing staples, but if you haven’t tried one of these plastics I would encourage you to tie one on and flip it, hop it or drag it around for big bass!

Zoom-Ribbon-Tailed-Worm

01. Zoom Ribbon Tailed Worm (Mag Worm)

Of course a ribbon tailed worm had to make the list. This is a classic lure that has been catching bass around the country for decades, so it had to be included. I put this lure in my top five, because of the bite that comes along with dragging a worm across the bottom. There is little that is more fun that dragging a worm across the bottom of the lake, when *WHAM* suddenly you feel the bite and set the hook on a monster. My favorite time of the year to fish a curly tailed worm is in the heat of the summer around points.

02. Strike King Rage Craw

The Strike King Rage Craw is one of the most versatile soft plastics. It works phenomenally well as a trailer, but today I want to talk about using it as a stand-alone texas rig. This is my favorite flippin’ bait when I want a lot of action and water displacement. Throw it around timber, low hanging cover, shallow rocks and you are sure to get bit. I utilize this bait in the Spring, Summer and Fall when flipping isolated targets.

03. Reaction Innovations Sweet Beaver

When I need a little less action than the Strike King Rage Craw, I turn to the Reaction Innovations Sweet Beaver. This soft plastic has a more subtle and tight action than most craw lures. This makes it perfect for targeting lethargic bass when nothing else will get them to bite. When you need to downsize, Reaction Innovations makes a Smallie Beaver version that is more compact and perfect for those really tough days. This bait shines in the early spring, heat of the summer and the late Fall when the bass are in their most sluggish attitudes.

Senko-Texas-Rig-Worm

04. Gary Yamamoto Senko

I have caught more bass on a 5 inch Gary Yamamoto Senko, than any other lure. Flip it, drag it, hop it, swim it, there is no wrong way to fish this lure. If I can’t get a bite to save my life, I tie on the Senko! When is my favorite time to fish it? Any time, all year and in just about any conditions. Seriously, you can’t go wrong with this bait.

Zoom-Brush-Hog-Texas-Rig-Bait

05. Zoom Brush Hog

The Zoom Brush Hog is another great flippin’ bait that comes in a variety of sizes. It’s a hybrid between a creature bait, curly tailed worm and a lizard. My favorite way to fish this is around isolated cover, specifically in the Summer near shaded timber. Flip it towards a lay down and hold on, bass can’t resist the unique falling action of this creature bait!
